381656 2005-08-18 05:51:00 It worked! It worked! I've just trebled my RAM!

(yes I know it's still low but that's not the point.)Well done. :D

Triple the RAM would make a big difference as you can tell, even if it is still only 96 MB (-1 for video) :p

Does your BIOS allow you to assign more system RAM to the onboard video? Might be worth a look now you are rolling in extra RAM :D

381657 2005-08-18 06:44:00 LOL. I never knew there was an option in the BIOS to assign more RAM to onboard video.

Feeling pleased with myself for getting my first elementary upgrade done now I'm fiddling with the BIOS!

Thanks for that jen. My next exercise.

Have just put a 256mb dimm 168 pin stick into the spare slot and have received the 3 beeps and a further 4 beeps, no go pc.

Gave the IBM PC 300GL specs to Memory Masters Pty, stateing that the present 256 chip was 133mhz and their chip is 100mhz.

There is a 64mb chip in the first slot and it's a 100mhz one.

Should the 3 chips be scaled in sequence perhaps: 64X100, 256X100 and 256X133.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Lurking.

Ps. sending this on a very reliable P1 workhorse.

381661 2005-11-23 02:35:00 I would put your ram in the other way big to small.

Are your 256Mb sticks doublesided, some mobos wont take doublesided in every slot.

And if you want to know what the beeps are just google "beep codes"

381662 2005-11-23 03:41:00 Rob99, thanks for your reply. This was a firm's excess requirement and was sold dirt cheap, to my son-in-law.

The original specs. were 576mb, but they had to equalise a large number of pcs', so they downgraded this 1 to 320mb.

Under the cover the diagram shows the slots as 2,1,3 so the 64 is 2 existing 256 is 1 and the extra 256 is in 3.

Should something else be adjusted, Jumpers for example.

Most of the help seems to say just "plug it in" making sure it's bedded well.

I was an old Accounting Machine fan, so excuse my ignorance in modern technology.

Thanks,

Lurking.
