382804 2005-08-21 20:40:00 What is the best software to convert wma files to mp3. I have found ones that will do wav to mp3 for about $30 US. BUt would like to know what others find best before buying a dud. Althea (7094)
382805 2005-08-21 20:51:00 There are plenty of free programs out there. IIRC, dB PowerAMP Music Converter will do it - and it's free. somebody (208)
382806 2005-08-21 21:08:00 Thanks, I have gone and downloaded the db Power amp one you named, but its not recognising the wma file, any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks

382807 2005-08-21 21:16:00 Goldwave!

Cant be beated with its batch conversion abilities :)

It'll let you choose the output bitrate for the lot, as well as format etc

382808 2005-08-21 21:29:00 Thanks for that
Now I bought a tune off the Coke fridge site. Now Goldwave won't open it because it says its copywrite protected????

382809 2005-08-21 22:47:00 Not much u can do about DRM WMA files.

Thats what format those music files are, on the Coketunes site.

Theyre protected against copying, and sounds like theyre protected against converting as well.

You'll have to get your music files from somewhere else. So they can be converted (If theyre not MP3 files).

382810 2005-08-22 00:53:00 You need to mute the playback of the Mic in Goldwave

Grab a small 3.5mm <-> 3.5mm lead and run it from the line-out to the line-in on your PC

Use Goldwave to record it.

382811 2005-08-22 08:34:00 dB powerAMP is probably your best bet. You can download a .wma codec from the site that does the job. Shortstop (632)
382812 2005-08-22 08:50:00 Are you sure Shortstop? Even if the file is copy protected it'll let you re-encode it?! Chilling_Silence (9)
382813 2005-12-21 21:44:00 One way to convert DRM WMA files to MP3 is to burn the tune to CD (windows media player can do this) then rip the CD to MP3. In theory there will be a loss of quality with multiple compressions but I can't hear it. bjdixon (8757)
