| 382836 | 2005-08-21 11:04:00 | A friend wanted to print some Word documents but claimed that printer was not working. So, installed my HP695C (previously working fautlessly) on her computer and it would not print. Brought up error message unable to print to LPT1. Checking properties etc. showed printer on LPT1 and port allegedly working OK. Reconnected HP695C to my own computer. She emailed me the files she wanted printing but when I tried to do so, they open OK but would not print. Brought up message "There was an error printing to LPT1 from your printer HP695C. Your file to be printed was deleted." Have uninstalled and re-installed printer several times; during installation setup a warning that cannot locate HP Deskjet on any parallel port appears and retries are unsuccessful. Have tried changing printer driver but am told that the one installed is the best one and I should continue with it. Have tried pausing print before actually printing and the file to be printed appears in the printer job queue but as soon as I unpause and try to print it disappears. Have run virus scan and ad-aware, but still no further forward. Any ideas??? |

| 382837 | 2005-08-21 12:34:00 | is this printer usb capable, if so unplug the lpt1 and plug in usb. It shouldn't require you to load the drivers but the os will detect and load it as new device If it works on usb it could be 1 faulty lpt cable or 2 faulty lpt port either on the pc or printer I have an HP 970 that has a faulty lpt port, I just use the usb port instead. |

(Or "ECP/EPP". ;)) That's about all I can think of. But the system's saying that no printer is found. That probably means that it can't talk back with messages saying what it is (rather than just responding with status bits which is all that a traditional parallel port can handle). |

Shortly after posting my original problem I had the idea to go into DOS and try and print print from there to see if it was a Windows problem . Started off by pressing Print Screen key and to my delight it did so . Then dredged up from memory (my own) the commands for sending type to lpt1 in DOS and tried this and suddenly the printer was up and going . Moved up into Windows from DOS and tried to print files that previously had been unprintable and found that they printed fine, just as they used to . So, cannot explain what might have been amiss or how my actions remedied it but am quite happy to be able to print again . |
