382569 2005-08-20 22:04:00 I go to update XP,it says I am not registered to update and asks me to to reg which I do,it say 100%,I then go to update having registered, only to be told I am not registered,I seem to be in a catch 22 situation.
If perchance you have the answer I would love to hear it.Thanks.

382570 2005-08-20 22:12:00 You mean validation, not registration?

Registration isnt compulsory, but you have to validate your version of XP before u check for updates on the windowsupdate site (if u havent yet) .

Thats if you're talking about the windowsupdate site .

BUT once it validates your version of XP, it shouldnt have to validate again .

No speedy,I mean registration .
I noted that I had not had an update for a while .
So went to updates,it said look for updates, clicked on express updates,it said I was no longer Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer . To continue I must register, which I did 100% it said,so I tried again but all it said is a repeat of the above . .

382575 2005-08-20 23:41:00 It looks like a few people have been getting this prob. You're not alone!

Try this

Start > Run > regsvr32 wuapi.dll
Start > Run > regsvr32 wups.dll
Start > Run > regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
Start > Run > regsvr32 wucltui.dll
Start > Run > regsvr32 atl.dll
Start > Run > regsvr32 MSXML3.dll

Restart the computer, and then try Windows Update site again

I see what you meant by validation Speedy, why that would be the case is a mystery, seeing as how I have not needed b4.

382577 2005-08-21 00:19:00 So, I take it u can now do something

Umm validation wasnt compulsory/mandatory, up until 3-4 weeks ago now .

Because of pirated versions of XP .

So, you're not the only one who will get it . Everyone using XP will have to go thru the same thing . And so will people, who use Windows 2000 soon .
