2005-08-20 08:17:00 | My workplace had given me an Ipaq pocket PC to use as a trial to see if it can improve on the old paper trail. I have it all worked out, Excel..great, Word fantastic....but do you think I can get the wireless internet connection..nup...lol I currently use a 2 year old Toshiba Laptop with the little Wireless icon and connection on off switch on the front. The help menu and the associated help disk is of no help what-so-ever. I can hook the Ipaq up to the Active Sinc cable and can connect to the internet that way but I can't get a wireless connection working. Is there anyone out there that has used a pocket pc before that can tell me how to set up one of these beasts to connect wirelessly to the internet? Or is it possible to connect to the internet using my laptop as the 'Mother Ship' ? Please help... :badpc: :badpc:

2005-08-20 08:37:00 | Has the Toshiba got wireless as in wireless or bluetooth as in wireless? If wireless, its different from Bluetooth. Likewise for the Ipaq. This uses bluetooth doesnt it?

2005-08-20 09:58:00 | You'll have to find out whats got what on it . ie: If the Toshiba has wireless / or bluetooth and whether the Ipaq has wireless or bluetooth (or both) . I dont think you'll get anywhere, if the Toshiba only has wireless, and the Ipaq only uses bluetooth (unless both have bluetooth or both have wireless) . Unless you get a USB bluetooth adapter for the Toshiba . (If the Ipaq only uses bluetooth) .

I probably wasn't explaining myself properly, both have what seems to be called "Infared wireless' but on laptop it is switched off or not opperating, Help tells me to see if it is enabled in devise manager and/or bios, neither say anything about Infared or IrD...so still stuck...wondering if toshiba put the switch on the machine but it's not hooked to anything....lol. and like your typical computer newbie, I put the manual and documents away where I could find them....now I can't find them.. |

2005-08-20 10:16:00 | Ah ok then infra red is different altogether! I would look in the BIOS of the Toshiba, under the COM port entries, and if its got IrDA or similar here, I would enable it . As it states on the MS site below Enter BIOS setup to verify whether the infrared device is enabled in BIOS, in IrDA, or Fast IrDA (FIR) mode . For information about how to enter BIOS setup, see your computer manufacturer's documentation . If the infrared device is disabled in BIOS, you might be able to use your computer's BIOS setup to enable it . I would say its off since it doesnt show in device manager (it should say something like infra red devices or similar in device manager), if its enabled . Check this site . It tells you what you're meant to see . microsoft . com/windowsxp/using/networking/learnmore/infraredimp . mspx" target="_blank">www . microsoft . com Whats the model of the Toshiba??

2005-08-20 11:56:00 | I've got an ipaq which logs onto the network via wireless, I assume you have a wireless access point and its configures to accept the ipaq's MAC address and other security protocols? | Helplesss (272) | |
2005-08-20 21:57:00 | Im a little confused by the origional question: Do you want the Ipaq to connect to the internet using GPRS, or connect to the internet through the laptop?! Maybe I missed it in skimming this thread....
