| 382271 | 2005-08-19 20:38:00 | I have 2 computers at home...One is mine and the other belongs to my mother. I was able to split the internet connection using a router. My computer is connected directly to the router, while the other computer is connected using those wireless usb cards. Now how can I go about networking these 2 computers, so that we can shares a printer and send files to eachother? |

What version of Windows? yeah the router is wireless...(well its directly connected to my computer but it is wireless and my mom's computer is using the internet wireless... Access Point not sure what that is? I am using xp pro and I think my mom is using xp home...both have service pack 2.... So we just make a folder with the exact name on both computers? How do we enable file sharing? And then I would be able to print if the printer is connected to her computer? |

| 382274 | 2005-08-20 03:38:00 | The folder on each doesn't have to be the same. The WORKGROUP name has to be the same, so u can see each other. My computer / right mouse / properties / computer name / change. Make sure the workgroup down the bottom are the same on both. An access point just makes the signal better or something. If you're not within range of each other. Dont know if wireless is the same as normal networking. I dont use wireless. To enable file sharing, tick on the WAN icon / properties and make sure file and printer sharing are ticked on both. Then u can share a folder. Then highlight the folder u want to share (dont share the whole hdd)! right mouse / sharing and security. Once u do the above, just highlight your mums printer / properties / sharing. Give it a name. Default name it gives is fine. Then on yours go to add printer Select a network printer then browse for a printer see if it shows up in the network. If it does select it. Thats it. |
