2005-08-24 03:40:00 | [QUOTE=Duncan82]Im having problems with a minidump(xxxx) and sysdat.xml which is causing my computer to crash. Does anyone have any ideas as to whats causing this? Ive reinstalled Xp, updated drivers and such, yet I have this problem. Its really driving me insane. Ive lost countless projects due to this. I have to backup all my work every five minutes! First of all the minidump and sysdat do not cause your computer to crash. These are both files which may help you or someone else to find the cause. Do you get stop errors and a blue screen? If so then send back to this forum the stop codes you have. Usually just the last two characters. you don't need to type in all zeros before the 1A or whatever at the end. Heres my specs. Windows Xp Pro Sp1 .net English Amd AthlonXp 2400+ (@2.0GHz) 512Mb Ram Intergrated network adapter ASUSTeK/Broadcom 440x 10/100 (disabled) Belkin wireless network adapter 802.11g Maxtor 6Y120Pd 120gig Harddrive NVIDIA GeForce Ti4800SE 128Mb I know I should upgrade my GeForce card, and put in another 512mb, but it works for me. Let us try to help with a hardware issue if you have one. I had a similar problem a while ago and I finally traced it to capacitators on the motherboard. Brown at the top and leaking. In my case the BSOD had several stop codes all of which led me in the wrong direction. Thanks for any help you can give. And if anymore info should be needed, let me know.

2005-08-29 00:45:00 | Well, I was thinking of replacing the 512 with a single unit (or maybe two) 1024 ddr rams. I dont have a floppy on my pc, and its a real b.... trying to get to the open ports and connectors in this computer, so Id rather not install one. Therefore I wasnt able to do the mem test. I have cleaned the computer out inside around two months ago. Ive also left my case open, just to let it "get more air" but the problems still occur. I have noticed one thing though, everytime I use any "network craving" applications, such as online gaming, it often shuts down. I figured it could be a proglem with the network card. (hence its disabled) Im now using a wireless, and the problem happens on occasion. I have no conflics in my device manager, ive updated everything that needs updating, and fixed what needed fixed. (onboard 5,1 soundcard) I have run a spyware test. And Ive cleaned the registry. My computer works well other then the xtml crashes. Im not sure if I was any help in this reply, but its a quarter to two, so Im a bit tired ;) Next time the error occurs, Ill find the xtml files and post em. Thanks again!

2005-08-29 05:41:00 | Duncan, Duncan, Duncan . :groan: You haven't got a floppy drive . So download the ISO image file from memtest86 and make the bootable CD . If you're not sure how to do this, enter memtest86 bootable CD to Google . There's a link there which will tell you how . You need to do a memory test . That's looking more and more likely to be the problem . Fast memory is only just fast enough to run at the "specified" speed . It only needs one chip on the stick which is a bit slow and you will get errors . Memory errors aren't always detected in use . Memory locations which contain data might not crash a programme .

Ive also noticed now when i disable my network card, and then re-enable it, the computer will shut down . I didnt even think about the iso image . Ill take a look at that . Thanks again for all your help! -Duncan |

2005-08-29 19:52:00 | Yes a little, is there a reason you havent installed support pack 2, you may want to consider this. I belive you should do as Graham reccomends run a mem test goldmem, memtest86 and if you're brave microsoft beta ram tester (link given in the forum about a week ago) all are free and can be downloaded off the net just google them. Memtest86 seems to the most popular although its not mine, I prefer goldmem. It maybe a driver problem if you look at those dump files you metioned in your first post you will proberly find a line that says "error driver loaded at ................" which maybe is your nic card consider updating this driver. BUT the first palce to start is as Graham says do a memory test

2006-08-19 11:53:00 | Hello all, I recently re-installed windows on a computer I bought very similar to the one owned by Duncan . My computer has only reset on me a few times whilst I was playing Halo, and after it has booted up the Microsoft Error box displayed the exact same error message as received by Duncan . I was just hoping that if Duncan found a 'cure' he could place it on this forum thread thingy . I'll try all the stuff you guys suggested earlier, thanks  .
