382311 2005-08-20 03:58:00 It's impossible for me to fit the RAM in the wrong way, as the motherboard was designed so the RAM could only fit one way.

And my brother-in-law made it for me (he's a computer technician), but I can't get in contact with him because he's gone to Canada for 6 months.

I will try to get my hands on known working RAM, but I don't have any other computers that have the right RAM - they all have RAM that looks different, I think it's because they're a couple of years old...

If I'm desperate I'll just buy some RAM from down at the computer store around the corner and test it out - it probably is the RAM that's the problem.

382312 2005-08-20 04:01:00 If you installed a new motherboard, you should have a manual for it. Look in it to see what the beeps mean. Graham L (2)
382313 2005-08-20 04:06:00 Yes the manual was the first place I looked for the beep codes, and it doesn't even mention anything about beeping, so I went on Google and searched for Award BIOS beep codes (it says the motherboard has Award BIOS) and it didn't say anything about long continuous beeps. Although I've seen on other forums people saying that it's a memory/video problem, but I wasn't sure because then people were coming up with all of these other explanations so I just decided to ask myself :) alexc (8747)

THat's one site of many that have pics of RAM modeules so you can visually identify tham. Used it myself (with success) just recently.

382315 2005-08-20 04:26:00 The link isn't working... :S Thanks anyway :) alexc (8747)
382316 2005-08-20 04:27:00 The very first link given by "long beep award bios" to Google might be significant. Roughly, Award bios 6.00PG/Asus P4 : 4 long beeps might indicate that your CPU fan isn't running, or is running too slow.

It seems to be that one long beep followed by two short indicates a video problem.

Check the CPU fan. If it's got a 3 pin (speed sense) connector is it properly connected?
Graham L (2)
382317 2005-08-20 04:45:00 Yes it has been properly connected.

And the beeps go for five seconds and then stop for another five seconds and then start again - it just keeps on doing that.

382318 2005-08-20 04:50:00 Unplug the keyboard. That beep pattern might be caused by a stuck down key. ;) That has happened to me in the distant past. Whether that might be still in the POST code I don't know. Graham L (2)
