382176 2005-08-19 07:06:00 Hi YODah, Welcome to PressF1 :)

I have split your post from the other thread and created a new post with it. For further reference at the top left of each forum you will see a "New Thread" button which you can use to create a new thread.

You will need to provide a few more details as well. What operating system do you have, what sort of downloads are these eg off ftp sites or http sites, and have you scanned for viruses with an up to date antivirus program. Also checking for other bandwidth hogging malware/spyware using a product such Spybot Search & Destroy and/or AdawareSE personal edition might be beneficial.

382180 2005-08-19 07:36:00 Try testing your download speed from this site : www.jetstreamgames.co.nz

Do you use antispyware programs? Seeing you use P2P networks, it would be worthwhile checking your machine for nasties:

Spybot Search & Destroy (www.safer-networking.org) - freeware.

AdawareSE (www.lavasoftusa.com) - free edition.

Make sure you update both of the programs with their inbuilt updaters after you install them to ensure the definitions are current.

Have you checked to make sure you haven't gone over your ADSL data limit? They will cap your speed if you have done this for that billing period.

382181 2005-08-19 09:48:00 As far as I am concerned Bliink stinks.
I keep losing my connection, but strangely as soon as I ring ihug it comes back on again. Then half an hour later it's off again.
Their tech staff know about as much as me.
They told me today to ring telecom for a line check. Got a call back from telecom and they want $80 to come and check my line. I told them what to do with that.
I'm afraid my time with Bliink is almost over. But where to from them ???

382182 2005-08-20 21:40:00 Ive had a great time with iHug :)

Admittedly the IP's I get resolve as being in Australian ranges (So I get Google.com.au sometimes) its pretty good. Last month I did a good 65 gigs, 58 the month before... All on their 256kbps down, 128kbps up plan :)

Port-forwarding would be my suggestion, but this cant be done with some of the D-Link Routers (302g comes to mind) without a static IP.

382183 2005-08-21 08:11:00 Ihug is probably doing the same anti-p2p stuff as all the other ISPs to make all the common p2p programs download slower than they should.

The popularity of p2p is seriously cutting into their profits, but they would be turning away a huge customer base if they block p2p, so they found that slowing it down is an acceptable compromise

382184 2005-08-21 10:43:00 the model is usually on the top from of the ADSL modem.
The best way to check the modem operation is to fire up the browser based configuration program and checking the connection
