383280 2005-08-24 03:45:00 This prob on a friends pc. Known specs are that it's a PC Company rig running Win.XP Home. For a whole heap of reasons he managed to delete this modem driver & Internet Connection details.

Modem driver re-installed on Com.3 and Device Manager shows that the modem is recognised and is working OK. Been to "Device Usage" and the device is Enabled. Re-running Add Hardware shows that "This device is working properly." and goes no further (which it shouldn't anyway)

Running Inetwiz gets as far as Step.3 where the user is asked to enter a "Connection Name". No matter what is entered the following drop-down message appears: "thisname is not a valid name. The entry name must contain at least one character that is not a space and cannot begin with a period. Choose a different name"

His ISP techie reckons the Inetwiz is not recognising the modem but cannot advise why. Have already tried uninstall/re-install which made no difference.

Any help appreciated.

383281 2005-08-24 04:00:00 1. Open the registry editor and navigate to

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\RasMan\PPP\EAP]

2. Under the EAP key you will find 4 keys [13], [4], [25] , [26]

3. Right Click on each of the keys 25 and 26 and delete

4. Reboot the computer

5. Once the computer reaches the desktop, go to 'Control Panel', 'Network
Connections' the original Dialup may now be there.
If not use the 'New Connection Wizard' to recreate the
internet connection. (Select "Create new connection" on the left)

383282 2005-08-25 08:22:00 Safari - your regedit & clear instructions worked perfectly - thanks.

Would you like to share how & where you found the regedit please?

Thanks

383283 2005-08-25 08:40:00 Can't remember exactly now but I think a colleague found it somewhere but at the time we were searching for a solution to the problem in the new connection wizard where the option to Connect using a dialup modem is greyed out and all the MS instructions never fixed the problem.
We found that the regedit fixes that as well as the problem you had.

It's a fairly common problem especially after upgrading to SP1, 2 or applying some patches thru Windows update.
