383244 2005-08-23 11:42:00 I am looking to buy a P4 478 motherboards that will take SDRAM to replace an old computer which has a faulty motherboard. As most newer motherboards only take DDR Ram, does anyone know if there are any manufacturer that still make such boards or perhaps any retailer that still has stock of such version of motherboards. Have been to pricespy etc. but could not find any. Someone told me that some boards have DIMMS that will take both SDRAM and DDR, is this correct? Thanks in advance. ephesus (2509)
383245 2005-08-23 11:49:00 Well there is one board I can think of from Asus P4SDR-VM, I don't know if you will get one it's pretty old, I have one but it's laying in a box somewhere, don't know if it would work though.

The other side is that mobos and ram are cheap you could spend as little as $150.00 for both components.

Have a look at that option.

cheers

383246 2005-08-23 22:22:00 Yup, I have one here . The ASUS P4B .

Its in the wardrobe here doing nothing . It still works (last time I had it) .

Only thing it needs is ram .

It uses post reporter (I think this is what its called - the manual for it is here somewhere) . This tells u the status on bootup (it speaks) . Whether something is wrong or not . It uses the Ipanel connection, but this isnt that great . It connects to the mobo, and shows the temp etc on a digital display .

On the front of the case .

Only thing with this, is it had/has a glitch . You play music and set it to update every few secs, the music skips .

BUT besides that its fine . Its still got a 1 . 5 ghz CPU stuck on it, doing nothing . There's a 1 . 7 CPU here somewhere . Just have to find it!

383247 2005-08-23 23:15:00 Thanks. As mine was a surplus computer I wasn't intending to spend too much to refurbish it and give it to some relatives kid. But a new mobo and ram might be an option if I can't find any mobo to fit the SDRAM.

Speedy Gonzales, do you have any intention of selling your old mobo. I have a P4 1.6Ghz CPU so really only need a mobo.

Thanks.

383248 2005-08-23 23:32:00 Where are you ephesus??

In Auckland?

Yup, I cant afford to get to ram for it atm, as I'm using 2 other P4's atm .

And making up a 64 bit system at the mo . So, I'm not planning on using the P4B, anytime soon .

So, yup, I can sell it to you . If you're in Auckland / around Mt Eden, and u have a case, you could bring it over, and I could assemble it for you / test it and make sure it still goes .

NOTE: This mobo only supports USB 1 . 1, so you'll have to get a PCI USB 2 card, if u want USB 2 . 0 . Which I've got here too .

383249 2005-08-23 23:55:00 Yes I am in Auckland. What price do you want for it? I am interested in finding a mobo so I can fix it myself as a dry run for my next project. ephesus (2509)
