383078 2005-08-23 04:14:00 Hi,
I live in a place where many have access to the PC under their login. OS=Wiondows Home Edition. The programs are on a relatively small C drive, so all the data and individuals data are on directories on the D-drive.
I do not want everyone to look into my stuff. How can I protect ditrectories on the D drive, i.e. make it an extension from the private folders we all have on the C drive? does this make sense? Windows allocates all users privat directories on the C-drive, but I need a locked folder on the D-drive?

How can I do that or is it a feature that only can be done in XP-Professional?
Cheers
Johan

383083 2005-08-23 20:18:00 those are pretty handy programs, but not what i was looking for.... because i have some rather um.... private files in my limewire folder, i also have my music in there... and when i encrypt the directory i can't listen to my music... what i'm looking for is a tool or feature on Windows XP that will let me just put a password on it so the folder can't be opened or looked in...kind of like being able to put a password on a MS word or WordPerfect document... 383084 2005-08-23 21:15:00 If you boot Windows XP Home in Safe Mode you can right-click on a folder and select Properties then you should see a Security tab. In here you can set which users are allowed access to the folder.
This may or may not work, I haven't actually tested it myself :D

in xp, you can password protect a compressed folder, if you compress or
move you folders to a compressed folder, double click the compressed folder go to file and click add password.
