383033 2005-08-22 12:11:00 Do wifi routers broadcast a stronger signal than wifi adaptors.

I have a working (ad hoc) network with poor but usable signal reception at the laptop. (Modem -> g pci adaptor -> g laptop adaptor)

Would adding a wireless router give significantly better signal/reception to the laptop. ie about $100 worth given cost of basic wifi router.

383034 2005-08-22 21:17:00 How far apart are the 2 computers?
Are there any walls or structures of any kind between them?

383035 2005-08-22 23:08:00 About 12-15m with a bunch of walls/doors etc in between.

The network is functioning as it is, albeit not very well, and it suits to leave things where they are - am I likely to get a sig better result broadcasting from a router than simply from an adaptor as it is now.

383036 2005-08-22 23:17:00 Linksys WAP54G accesspoint, you can flash it to give it a power boost. Rob99 (151)
383037 2005-08-22 23:49:00 You will get more signal strength from an access point than a wireless adapter. CYaBro (73)
383038 2005-08-23 00:00:00 Thanks for that.

Any comment on Gbyte BC01 PCI router card. Seems to have good review and I like the idea of an internal solution.
