| 383458 | 2005-08-28 08:10:00 | Have I missed something here? If the BIOS is currently screwed (with the wrong BIOS), that prevents the PC reaching POST (assumed), just how is it going to load any version of BIOS.... |

The original poster does not mention if it posts or not. Please excuse the pun. If it does not post then the only solution in my view is to replace the BIOS chip for a known good one. Somebody here did that once with good results. If it were me I would be looking for another M/B to support my CPU and RAM. |

| 383461 | 2005-08-28 22:46:00 | Sorry, I'm new to this posting thing so I have missed some details. If I clear the CMOS using the jumper then the computer passes POST, loads optimised CMOS defaults, then boots quite happily. However, any time I try and restart it, like whilst installing an OS, drivers and the like, it does not pass POST. The only way to get it to restart is by clearing CMOS again. I have tried putting a brand new battery in, as well as entering CMOS and trying to find anything anomalous that could be causing this issue. I had spoken to an 'IT professional' before posting my original post about BIOS and he suggested that the BIOS version was at fault, especially considering the manufacturer recommended not to use that version of BIOS. Sorry about the excessive use of the word post in that last sentence! I shall soon try the copies from Murray (thanks heaps) and let you all know how I get on, thanks for all your ideas. |

| 383462 | 2005-09-05 02:55:00 | I have tried to flash one of the BIOS versions donated by MurrayP, but to no avail. The system halts a couple of seconds after I press <enter>. So thanks for all your help, but now I am looking for a motherboard to support my lonely Duron 700Mhz processor. New Zealands favourite web-site, here I come. (Starts with T and ends in ade-me, I'll let you guess the last letter) :badpc: |
