383598 2005-08-25 02:42:00 Hi. Im using
Windows XP SP2. Disabled windows firewall
Router : Dynalink RTA220 . Disabled Firewall
Panda Antivirus up to date.
Ad aware spy ware installed but not running in the background..
ISP Worldnet : 256K adsl flat rate with unlimited download.

I'm trying to use P2P programs like edonkey and Ares.
I can connect to the programs and download buts its really slow...about few 2 KB/s sometimes..
Everytime i connect the edonkey program says
"" i have a LOW ID. Please check your network configuration and firewall setting""

What can i do? i have read some stuff about port forwarding but i cant find any of those info in my router...

Help?????

thanxxx..

383599 2005-08-25 02:57:00 Dont know anything about portforwarding.

I dont use a router, but SP2 lowers the ports for programs especially P2P programs, to lower the risk of getting worms etc with P2P programs.

There's a TCP/IP hack, on the net somewhere tho, that fixes this, just not too sure where.

Do a search in google, or yahoo.

383600 2005-08-25 03:02:00 Port fowarding on the RTA220 is under Configuration - Virtual Servers CYaBro (73)
383601 2005-08-25 03:05:00 ok...so if i want to do port forwarding. i just need to add the ports in virtual servers which the progams uses right..
which be for example.
TCP-4662
UDP-4672

rite??

383602 2005-08-25 03:06:00 With the RTA 220 I think you have to manually add each individual port to the virtual server list...

e.g
6881 TCP to 192.168.1.2
6881 UDP to 192.168.1.2
6882 TCP to 192.168.1.2 and so on...

Also check with your ISP provider to see if they block ports... Speak to someone who actually knows about them...

A friend of mine who just joined Slingshot last week got a big suprise when he found out that they blocked P2P ports. He has now changed ISP's

383603 2005-08-25 03:10:00 Even if your ISP does block ports (AFAIK most don't) then you should be able to circumvent this by running your software on non-standard ports . You should be able to change this in the configuration dialog of your software .

Yea that's right.
I have set Azureus (Bittorrent) to use port 16881 instead of the default 6881.
Then I port forwaded TCP & UDP 16881 in my router to my PC.
