383520 2005-08-24 22:07:00 Hi, the PC displays that i have not got any hardrive connected, there is no pattern where the jumper has to go but have tried the jack in all the posititions and even with no jack at all, but it still displays that i have no hardrive.
This hardrive is a western digital and works well in another PC so what would cause this ?
I have set the BIOS to auto detect, have tried the power connection on other hardware and thats ok, the grey cables are correctly installed, but still no hardrive detected, could it be faulty memory?
thanks

383522 2005-08-25 10:28:00 You can find the jumper setting diagram on their website - look up your HDD model number. pctek (84)
383523 2005-08-26 14:13:00 Thanks guys,
Now i have done it, i accidently knocked off the wires that goes to the front of the PC, the ones that go to the motherboard and the speaker.
May be one of those wires may have not been connected, i wouldn't have a clue, now it starts from the wall switch
I have even tried another grey cable off another machine that i know its working good, and tried another hardrive that is a good one and that done the same thing,
any suggestions ?
thanks

383524 2005-08-26 21:47:00 Look in your motherboard manual - or download it - to see where the power switch connects to on the MB - and the other wires. Sometimes its actually written on the MB as well - PWR, HDD LED etc etc.

If you are sure the cables are correct and jumpers correct etc then that leaves a faulty motherboard - the IDE slots.

383525 2005-08-27 00:59:00 Thanks PCtech,
Actually i brought the motherboard second hand to replace a faulty one, i brought it off a pc tech that was using it as a server, i think he said, he said it works for sure this one, so if its not the faulty motherboard could it be possibly the memory stick ?
many thanks,

383526 2005-08-27 01:00:00 Thanks for the advise PCtech,
Actually i brought the motherboard second hand to replace a faulty one, i brought it off a pc tech that was using it as a server, i think he said, he said it works for sure this one, so if its not the faulty motherboard could it be possibly the memory stick ? the reason i ask this is because when i turn it on in the bios, the memory counter runs like mad until i push F1 and that stops it.
I have had a magnifying glass on the motherboard and it doesn't show much only at the end it says positive and negative and where to to attach the speaker thats all, i will try to find the manual on the internet.
Could the wires be a cause for this to happen ?
many thanks,

383527 2005-08-27 01:33:00 This PC Tech... you know them for sure and that he/she is an actual PC Tech? or they just said they were a PC Tech as they were selling you the board? And you know this person well enough to know they won't rip you?

I would take there word with a grain of salt unless you know them well.

Sounds like the motherboard.

As for the long RAM count; some of the older motherboards take a while to reach there final count.

383528 2005-08-27 06:31:00 Thanks for the reply,
I have been caught before, they pray on others lack of knowledge, they are not who they say they are, and are the scum of this earth.
This bloke could very well be another BS artist, i am not sure really, he has been good to me though, but still i find it hard to trust to many these days, this forum is a real life saver for me, i have learnt a lot here.
That memory counter, it doesn't stop at all if you leave it running, i have to press F1 otherwise it won't stop.
I see no one has made any refferance to the memory stick, so it seems not to be the trouble.
I will go back to and see him again, and see what i can do then, thanks heaps for your help.
