383812 2005-08-26 20:11:00 How many firewalls have you got installed?

Don't have too many running, at the same time. They may conflict with each other.

After your system is clean MAKE SURE you update Windows, as shown on the Symantec site, or you'll get it again.

And then MAKE SURE the AV / Firewalls etc are up to date.

383813 2005-08-26 20:17:00 Well because of the thunderstorms, the power went out while I was at school so my PC was cut off during a virus scan. I did turn the PC back on and the task manager works again. ^_^ I still have to re-scan and get rid of the winupdate viruses. MasturJeff (7803)
383814 2005-08-26 20:24:00 Do you guys think I should switch from McAfee to Norton? I stopped by Circuit City on the way home and they had the Norton Antivirus-Firewall 2005 package for $29.99. I have some extra money to spend and I wouldn't mind getting either of them. MasturJeff (7803)
383815 2005-08-26 20:32:00 lol, well according to some of the posts, posted in here about Nortons, Nortons is a memory hog . And can slow a system down .

So, if you havent got a LOT of ram, forget it .

I use Nortons Internet Security 2003, myself, no prob at all .

BUT, quite a few people have had probs with 2005 . Its too buggy . And some have had probs with activating it as well .

Other than this, you could try a free one . NOT too sure how good or bad the free ones are tho . And what their limitations are, if they have any .

Well, at least you can get into Task Manager now! Thats good!

383816 2005-08-26 20:43:00 I have 256 RAM already, and I was thinking about getting more ram because during my McAfee Scans/Spyware Doctor/XoftSpy scans the PC is really slow. I'm in the market for RAM, but I don't know what's a good deal and what's not. I have a 2003 Compaq Presario 6,000, so I don't know if my PC has any limitations involving RAM. MasturJeff (7803)
383817 2005-08-26 20:53:00 Does this Compaq use an Athlon CPU??

I'll check it out and see what the ram limit is.

There's a sticker on the side of the processor... I'll type what it says.

AMD Athlon XP processor 2200+ operating at 1.8GHz

256MB DDR SDRAM Memory with up to 32mb allocated to video memory.

80GB Ultra DMA Hard Drive

Integrated ProSavageDDR KM266 graphics within 32MB shared video memory

383819 2005-08-26 21:21:00 Hmm well as usual the HP site tells u stuff all!

Besides this

h10025.www1.hp.com

1/4 down the screen about how many slots are on the mobo.

Even tho yours is a 6000, there's lot of them on the HP site!

Anything else like 6331RSH somewhere??

383821 2005-08-26 22:10:00 lol, well that makes 2 of us. I dont know which 6000 series u have.

Does it show the memory info in the BIOS? Or didnt u check?

Or when u boot that system, what appears on the screen? Anything else, besides what you've already said?? ie: Compaq Presario 6000 series?
