| 383739 | 2005-08-26 05:20:00 | My dad tried doing this exact same thing using his Acer notebook which had a mic/line in socket. It would record no problems with no extra noise BUT it only recorded in mono! I had a spat at Acer about this but they wouldn't listen so in the end I got my dad a Creative USB sound card (like the one listed in bartsdadhomers post). Works beautifully. |

| 383741 | 2005-08-27 05:24:00 | Thanks bartsdadshomer for the refs. I have received a schematic diagram of a creative Sound blaster live 24 bit external with a range of front & rear ports. I'm a bit of a dummy on this so excuse my ignorance if I ask CYaBRO a basic question as you obviously have had success with it. Which of the ports do you use for the "line-in " connection from your amp? In the diagram it has on the front panel ports for : DVD player;microph; headph; To Stereo sound upmix and on the back panel there's : supports up to 5 spkrs; Cassette/Radio/Diskman and Home Theatre None of them specify simply "line in" , so can you tell me which one do I use for recording my vinyl? Thanks willbry |

| 383742 | 2005-08-27 05:42:00 | A member a week or so ago asked about this. I understand you must have a "Y" lead from your amp line out to your sound card. My lap top doesn't have a line in socket but someone told me that if I get a lead which has the right size jack,I can still transfer the music by using the external microphone of the lap top.My handbook says a monaural microphone may be connected to the micropone port on my laptop. If so will it only record monaurally onto the hard drive? ......I dunnow...it LOOKS like MICROPHONE to me...is this a NZ word for "NOT USING A MICROPHONE"? |
