| 384454 | 2005-08-29 07:21:00 | it happens when im downloading or idleing my xtra jetstream, apparently a problem with SP2, shows up in the connection icon with an exclamation mark. repair usually works but some times it fails to renew the ip address. any solutions? ive downloaded a fix but no change. and also reinstalled my modem. | jamesyboi (6579) | ||

| 384458 | 2005-08-29 21:08:00 | So you are saying that it works then all of a sudden you get this problem with limited connectivity?? If that is the case I would check the network cable from the router to the PC as it sounds like a bad connection to the router which is also the DHCP server. |

| 384460 | 2005-08-30 05:07:00 | If you are running just a single or a few (less than 5 PCs), you should set the IP of your computer to a range similar to the modem, or set the modem to similar range of your PC, I prefer setting the PC to the range of the modem due to if there is any problems related to the modem, it is pretty standard apart from your own ISP settings. It would be advisable to state the type of modem and how it interfaces with your computer (the type of connection and cable). I'm assuming it's an external ethernet router, since I usually encounter this type of error with that type or if it's wireless. If the IP of your modem is, 10.1.1.1 and subnet 255.0.0.0 then your PC IP should be anything from 10.1.1.2-10.1.1.254 using the same subnet. It's not advisable to rely on DHCP unless you disable the Windows service for DHCP, which I believe comes before the DHCP of the modem (not sure). If you manually set the IPs up, you should have no problems, especially with conflicting DHCP servers. Hopefully setting it manually you'll have no problems with this loss connectivity and you won't have to rely on renewing the IP. I haven't had problems thus far with other PCs that I've set up this way. Cheers, KK |

Cheers, KKNot exactly true... with a subnet of 255.0.0.0 and an IP of 10.1.1.1, your IP range can be anything from 10.1.1.1 to 10.255.255.255 Jamesyboi... how does the modem connect to the computer? (USB or Ethernet cable). Try swapping out your cables first. You also say that its a problem of XP with SP2, thats not correct as my computer uses XP Pro SP2 (as secondary O/S) and has no issues like that. |
