384229 2005-08-28 06:46:00 Whilst using the 'Powerdesk' program to search for some Excel files I came across two files whose contents match one of my own Excel workbooks but they have different file names entirely (Dc678.xls and Dc688.xls, bearing no resemblance to my own names). They are said to be in a folder listed as C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-2608510113-2034302151-2691272031-1007\ but when I go to the C:\ drive RECYCLER is not a listed option.

It scares me that as Main Administrator there are files I cannot see and even more mysterious things going on than I had previously imagined (and I have a fertile imagination and paranoia). What is going on? Or is there some kind of error in 'Powerdesk'? Should I panic or not?

The "Recycler" is the fancy name for your recycle bin. That is where the files are located.

There are lots of hidden files in the operating system, sort of a self-protection feature against curious investigators. It is just how Microsoft choose to do things. Your program must allow those normally invisible files and directories to be viewable.

You would have deleted a couple of spreadsheets and they will have finished up in the recycle bin because of this. They will be renamed.

Try a right click on your recycle bin and does it say where you can purge your files and others? This in case you have Norton products installed.

No error in PowerDesk here. I also doubt you have a problem with PowerDesk.

Click Start, Control Panel, Folder Options and view hidden files. You should then have access to C:\RECYCLER and the files within.

Be carefull what you delete.

I do believe that CrapCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) also sets up a righ click command line there too if it's installed with that sorta default.
