I have a car ecu (computer)
Im taking the fuel and ignition maps and paramters off it
I need a ep rom read writer so i can copy the data from it put it onto a laptpo then passing it on to an adjustable acu chip need majour help though understanding everything

This is something even a professional would baulk at
I'm not 100% sure but you would need specialised gear only the manufacturer would have
Could be wrong though, there are cleverer than me out there

384731 2005-08-31 01:57:00 Have looked into these for a workmate and there are sites on the net that have software you can use for this plus information on how to go about it.

You can get eprom burners from the likes of Dick Smith. Do your homework first so you get the right one.

384732 2005-08-31 03:13:00 The memory chip is more likely to be an EEPROM, rather than an EPROM, these days . It could be an I2C (or other serial protocol) device, rather than a bus one (with many address and data lines) .

So the required hardware could be very simple . But without knowing the actual chip, there's no way to tell .

I believe that modifying the manufacturer's settings could be more of a problem . Many of the settings are for pollution control, as well as fuel efficiency . Changing them would be illegal in some countries . though probably not in NZ . Yet . Blowing up the engine might be one side effect, though .

But even before that, there would be the problem of interpreting the data in the memory device . I doubt it will be in the form of " Ignition map=1231231346" . It will be binary information, in a format known to the manufacturer's programmers .

I'm sure there are people around who have reverse engineered ECUs . The trick would be to find those who know about the actual one you are interested in .
