384720 2005-08-30 23:49:00 I seem to have scrollbars appear actually on the desktop itself... not all the time - only when an icon sits too close to the edge (but not when an open window goes partially off screen...)
When an icon cause the scrollbars to appear, any movement of the scrollbars cases the background image to dissapear and the background to turn black (although any window moved in front of the black causes it to revert back to the original image, as does moving the offending icon away from the edge of the screen).
Any idea's as to what may be causing this?
Thanks
Neil

384721 2005-08-31 00:04:00 What happens when you try to change your resolution or wallpaper?
Does it stay the same?
If it does,
I'd suggest you have a browser/desktop hijacker especially as you say the desktop turns black.
Did you set it to black or has it just appeared?
There is a rather nasty desktop hijacker doing the rounds at the mo'
Download ccleaner and get rid of the junk first http://www.ccleaner.com/
Download the ewido suite www.ewido.net Must have 2000/XP for it to run, won't run on 95/98/ME
Update after installation and do a full system scan
Update your Anti Virus and do a full scan
Also install, update and run Spybot www.safer-networking.org
And Adaware www.lavasoftusa.com

384722 2005-08-31 00:21:00 No problem with resolution or wallpaper changes.
My system is locked down pretty tight - all patches applied, firewalled (hardware), Spybot's Tea-Timer running, scanned for spyware every week, scanned for viruses every day (with updated defs).
Checked for this again all the same but no hijackers here...
The black screen I mention seems more like windows not handling the background properly, and as mentioned a 'wipe' with any open window replaces the background with no problem.

Any other ideas ?

384723 2005-08-31 01:04:00 Do you have any shell enhancements installed like windows blinds, stardock etc?
Installed any new themes lately?
Must admit I've never come accross your problem before and without actually seeing it I'm stumped
What graphics card do you have?

384724 2005-08-31 02:14:00 I do have Object Desktop installed, but I haven't used it in at least a year - I'll uninstall to be sure, but doubt that is the issue.
No new themes or any other related software.
I'm running an ATI Radeon 9550 card...
The only other 'theme/enhancement' software I run is Tweak-XP Pro 4...
This is just plain weird...

384725 2005-08-31 03:32:00 Well, problem seems to have gone away after a few screen res changes... very odd.
Thanks for the help tho...
