384633 2005-08-30 07:52:00 I am confused by the warning I am now getting on boot-up,
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*********WARNING—Your computer CHIP FAN fail or speed too low **********
You can also disable this message in setup
------------------------------------------------------------------------
That is how it appears.
It was not there before so why the option to disable and ignore it?
Running AMD 64 3500+----XP Pro---MB Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe

Thanks

384634 2005-08-30 07:59:00 Some CPU (and other type) of fan do not have speed sensors, so motherboards will always report 0 RPM and give you a warning even though the fan is spinning fine, this is the reason for the dissable option.

..however, if the warning was NOT coming up before and you have not been playing in the bios, then I suggest you check the fan immediately to make sure it is spinning.

The AMD 64 have thermal shutdown so it would not fry like the older athlons, but it would still not be good for it. You could check the CPU temp in the bios, anything much over 40C (while in the bios) is probably not a good thing.

384636 2005-08-30 10:13:00 Its not your CPU fan - its the chipset fan on the motherboard.
Turn the computer off and leave it off.

Go to your shop (or contact the NZ distributors directly - www.morningstar.co.nz) and ask for another one - ASUS had a known fault with these and are giving out replacements - a different one. They have since discontinued the Deluxe board and replaced it with the Premium - the difference being it has no chipset fan but instead uses a heatpipe cooling arrangement.
