1357213 2005-08-30 06:02:00 Gidday,
For my new game machine, I'm getting a new motherboard with 5.1 on board sound. Is this good? (i have no idea!) Should I still be looking at buying a seperate sound card?
I'd like to hook it up to my tv and connect to surround speakers one day if that makes a difference
Thanks!

1357214 2005-08-30 06:07:00 Get a seperate card - well worth it for a gaming machine.

An Audigy 2 would be good - just the plain vanilla one is good enough...

1357216 2005-08-30 09:06:00 Thanks Hado and Tazz...
I'm looking at getting the audigy 2 zs. (platinum if its worth it?)
I don't currently have a home cinema. Would this card run everything needed for movies from my pc (to tv), and simply connected to surround speakers?
(eg. without needing the usual home cinema units)
Cheers!

I have onboard sound on my motherboard but have connected the Creative Audigy 2ZS sound card. The difference is noticable. I have creative 5.1 speakers as well. I somehow doubt that the "Platinum" will make any difference.

So you want to have a a movie playing from the computer to a TV but surely the sound output you get there (on the TV) will be limited by the speakers attached to the TV?

Is the TV you want to watch the video part of this in the same room as the computer?

I was going to play the picture from pc to tv ( both in lounge)
and connect new 5.1 or 7.1 speakers directly to pc.
Then play dvds from my pc ....at least I was hoping so! :p
Your thoughts?

Nice...was just looking at that product myself on the creative site and trying to find it in NZ.
Going thru singapore next week, so may take a look there for it. Any experience in buying pc parts there? (eg. is it cheap? not fakes?)
Thanks for your input!

OK then. Your computer and TV are in the same room. Your sound card (on board or otherwise) will be connected to the PC along with the speakers (5.1 or 7.1). You have a DVD Writer or reader connected to the PC and you want the sound played from a DVD inserted in the PC to go to the speakers on the PC and the video on the same DVD to go to the TV? Correct me if I'm confused.

Yeah youre correct. Itš actually a normal setup I guess. I just wasn't sure what people need to buy receivers worth up to $1000 and amplifiers for, if I could do it from my pc? (guess that should have been my question?)
