| 384617 | 2005-08-30 04:02:00 | I've just searched the threads, and can't find much info on this, so here goes... WxC (World xChange - www.wxc.co.nz) are offering a broadband connection for $29.95 - this is 256k/64k speed, 1GB cap (throttled to 64k after the cap), with free connection, no minimum contract, and unlimited national traffic. I've emailed them for clarification on the national traffic, and they said: "Unlimited national data usage means the data cap only applies to internet traffic that leaves New Zealand. e.g. www.nzherald.co.nz is hosted in New Zealand so it does not count towards your data cap. e.g. www.bbc.co.uk is an international site and thus it counts towards your data cap. Some websites appear to be hosted in New Zealand and may have the .co.nz included in its address, however not all of these are hosted in this country." They also offer 100 free national minutes for people who have their tolls with WxC (which I do). This sounds like a pretty good deal, only $2 more than my current dial-up plan with Ihug. My questions are: 1.) Does anyone use WxC for broadband, and what is your experience with them like? i.e. good support, reliable speed/service, any catches 2.) A modem would have to be bought separately - what is a good model, what is required when setting up, and what are the pitfalls (modem/routers with firewalls - any good?)? Running AMD Athlon 64 2800+, MSI NForce3 Mobo, 512MB RAM, ATI 9800Pro 128MB. Cheers Lizard |
