1357185 2005-08-29 22:37:00 We have been given an "ex-work" (not our work) PC but we can't get it past a log on to Windows dialogue box. It asks for a username and password and appears to think it is still connected to a network. Interestingly, before the Windows log on request, the company logo appears briefly. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

1357189 2005-08-29 23:25:00 If the PC was setup to retrieve accounts off a network server then you probably won't be able to get into the system at all. You may need to re-install the OS (I assume you were given the install discs?) Apart from that I don't think you'll have much luck.

cheers

1357190 2005-08-29 23:27:00 If u can get into Windows thru Safe mode, search for pwl and delete these files. But not the.dll file/s if they come up.

Then reboot. Or see what happens when u press Esc

1357191 2005-08-30 00:01:00 The work place should have cleaned it out first. If it a domain logon you won't be able to bypass it easily. Best to reinstall Windows from scratch. Wonder what top secret company info they left on it too? pctek (84)
1357192 2005-08-30 00:30:00 try "administrator" with no password (you never know) or maybe even "guest" the last one does not give you many user privalages

Try an f8 boot (tap the f8 when the machines powering up) as well using administrator with no passwordMay pay also to check if you have the license for that operating system

1357193 2005-08-30 02:06:00 Does it have a sticker on the side of the case with a Windows serial no. If so you can reinstall that version of Windows and start afresh. If not, Windows is most likely licensed via a corporate license (unless you have the Windows disks and a serial number) and you need your own version of Windows. Either way, best to reinstall Windows and start afresh with a clean install. dolby digital (5073)
1357194 2005-08-30 02:17:00 The machine is probably set to log onto a domain and is looking for a domain controller(which is obviously not there). Is there a option you can click on to "locall logon"? or something at the logon screen? you may click on it to drop the option down.

Logging on locally with any account may have been dissabled. If you have a network administrator, you could return the machine to your work and he should be able to solve this fairly quickly.

Beyond that your looking at a reinstall.
