1357527 2005-08-31 06:11:00 he Setup process starts. Insert the other floppy disks as you are prompted to do so. You must use the Windows XP CD-ROM to finish the Setup process.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

1357528 2005-08-31 06:19:00 Speedy, I only have 6 floppy disks ironically... do you think I should save hte Windows XP Home Edition or SP1 boot to the floppy disks.

What do u mean save the XP Home edition? To what? from what?

The one thats installed? to cd/floppy? I dont think so.

If u dont have the XP install cd, forget it, it wont reinstall from XP if its already installed. NOT unless XP is on a hidden partition.

You NEED the XP CD.

1357529 2005-08-31 06:26:00 Ok just to clarify...

1) I'm going to download the Windows XP Home Edition Setup (& SP1 setup just incase) boot disks from the microsoft website. www.microsoft.com

2) I'm going to reformat my C: drive.

3) Going to run the boot setup from floppy disks and enter my product key...

4) Put everything back on the C: drive that I burned to my CD-RW's.

Am I missing anything?Yup, an operating system... those disks are only if you don't have a bootable O/S disc. They are not a complete operating system, or even the start of an operating system
If I have read this thread correctly, you don't have a disc with an operating system on it at all.

1357530 2005-08-31 06:56:00 I'm talking to a compaq/hp technician from the chat support thing on their website...

He just told me HP/Compaq does not ship Windows XP CD's and said I need to make a recovery CD with the recovery partition. :horrified

1357531 2005-08-31 07:21:00 Ok problem solved.

I'll have to do a Destructive System Recovery to format and re-install Windows on my PC (basically to the same state of my PC from the day I bought it).

1357532 2005-08-31 07:41:00 All this time I was trying to look for Non-Existant Windows XP disc, and all I had to do was do a System Recovery! :badpc: MasturJeff (7803)
