1357517 2005-08-31 04:55:00 I'm trying ot install SP2 on the PC that i'm replying with these posts. I uninstalled SP2 yesterday, and I'm trying to install it again.

Anyhoo, it just cancelled during the middle of the installation again. -_-

1357518 2005-08-31 05:07:00 I'm going to try and do a system restore previous from uninstalling SP2. MasturJeff (7803)
1357519 2005-08-31 05:17:00 Hold on a second...

I'm looking at my System Properties and I see my System:

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 1

and then I see it's registered to my brother with his name

and I see this long serial number... is this the product key I'll need when I resetup windows xp?

# = Number
A = Letter

#####-AAA-#######-#####

So is this the serial # I need to write down? I'll just download the SP 1 Service Pack boot from the microsoft website.

Here's the link for the setup boot for SP1.

1357520 2005-08-31 05:32:00 Umm no that number is different from the product key needed to install XP.

It MIGHT work, if u either slipstream SP1 or 2 on the install cd. I dont know what that SP1 setup boot is or what it does. I've never used it, I just use a cd with SP2 slipstreamed on it. Saves me trying to find SP2 later.

Get this to find out what the key is to install XP

1357521 2005-08-31 05:35:00 Ok just to clarify...

1) I'm going to download the Windows XP Home Edition Setup (& SP1 setup just incase) boot disks from the microsoft website. www.microsoft.com

2) I'm going to reformat my C: drive.

3) Going to run the boot setup from floppy disks and enter my product key...

4) Put everything back on the C: drive that I burned to my CD-RW's.

Am I missing anything?

1357522 2005-08-31 05:38:00 Thanks for the magic jelly bean keyfinder thing Speedy... I have to write the CD Key down. MasturJeff (7803)
1357523 2005-08-31 05:41:00 Yup, if u have USB 2 SP1/2 has to be installed, the videocard drivers, the mobo drivers, the ide inf file drivers. Then the updates BEFORE u get back online.

DON'T get on the net without SP1 or SP2 installed.

1357524 2005-08-31 05:47:00 That means I have to re-install my NVIDIA Video card. o_o MasturJeff (7803)
1357525 2005-08-31 05:49:00 Depends, if the videocard is Nvidia based yer u do .

Otherwise, you'll get a crap screen .

1357526 2005-08-31 06:09:00 Speedy, I only have 6 floppy disks ironically... do you think I should save hte Windows XP Home Edition or SP1 boot to the floppy disks. MasturJeff (7803)
