1357223 2005-08-30 21:45:00 Yeah youre correct. Itš actually a normal setup I guess. I just wasn't sure what people need to buy receivers worth up to $1000 and amplifiers for, if I could do it from my pc? (guess that should have been my question?)
Mainly cause PC speakers sound like rat droppings.

There are some pretty mean sets available - if I had the money I would get a set of those Logitech Z-680 5.1 THX certified - massive power (well compared to other PC speaker sets). I think Creative have THX certified sets now as well but havent looked at any reviews for those.

I have just the basic Audigy DE and analogue creative 5.1 set -> sounds mint as in a small room with DVDs and EAX4 games :) They are not that great for music though...

Oh yeah and the platinum editions just come with a big front i/o thing - bit of a waste of money if all you want is the card and basic analogue i/o - get the standard card if that is the case.

1357226 2005-08-31 09:16:00 Go to Maylaysia its cheaper to buy there.

Get it in its original box and check the seal has not been broken on the box.
(Get it opened up and check everything is in the box as stated on the box, manual, instalation cd,sound card, cables etc.

Get it from a computer shop at the airport (duty free), or in town and keep the receipt and see if you can get the gst back at the airport.

I had a stopover at Singapore airport and bought a Creative Zen Nano Plus 1 GB for $284 in Singapore dollars at a computer shop at the airport. And I am Very pleased with it but I know electronics are cheaper in Maylaysia as a fellow travler told me so as he had just been there.

1357227 2005-08-31 10:58:00 Nice...was just looking at that product myself on the creative site and trying to find it in NZ.
Going thru singapore next week, so may take a look there for it. Any experience in buying pc parts there? (eg. is it cheap? not fakes?)
Thanks for your input!

Creative has a factory/shop (out of the way) in Singapore and many IT retail shops stock them as well - all genuine stuffs. Try the Funan IT Mall - plenty to choose from but shop around for the best prices, they are all in the same shopping centre. With the exchange rate as it is you probably get a good deal but have to weigh up your options of warranty. I have bought some pc parts before and have not had any problems. :)

Get any PC spekare set you like - set it up and compare the same song/game whatever with a real system. I know which one I'd prefer. Only problem is the cost...:-(

1357229 2005-08-31 14:11:00 Get sound card

Get cables from Dick smith

Plug cables into sound card

Plug cables into stereo(even a good portable stereo would do) (can be any kind and will be better then most tiny sounding pc speakers)
