384585 2005-08-30 04:03:00 Hi
I have a compaq Deskpro en. I currently have it without the keyboard, so i used my current one but it only works till the Welcome/Log-on screen in XP Pro after that none of the keys work. why would this be happening?. this machine is not that old to not recognize a plug& play keyboard.

384587 2005-08-30 05:23:00 You may need to remove the drivers.

I had a similar problem with the mouse, PS/2 or USB can't remember, but it was working fine, then Windows decided it found a new device and installed some driver over the top and after doing that, the mouse didn't respond.

I had to figure out how to tell Windows to leave the mouse alone, but don't ask me how I managed that.

You may need to figure out how to get windows to stop replacing the driver of the keyboard, and try using a more generic one, or using the drivers for your keyboard and trying to get windows to leave it alone once it's setup how you want it.

Cheers,

384588 2005-08-30 05:43:00 My compaq rear usb ports stopped functioning in the past and a simple swap to the front ports worked for my keyboard, but only after a restart...
Maybe?

384589 2005-08-30 05:47:00 keybds do die unfortunately
Try another one, preferably PS2 and see if it works

my current one is ps2 (the socket next to the mouse). now what i have discovered is that only the " Power" button seems to work in windows.

So Windows isn't working.

The keyboard might be working, but with noone at home in the OS to listen to it, how can you tell?
