384505 2005-08-29 08:56:00 I know these type of posts have been done before, but I'm quite curious, what's happened since then? In previous posts, people have mentioned that latency is an issue, and hence makes the not suitable for gaming. This doesn't affect me, as I don't do much in the way of online gaming. But people have also stated outages and speed variations. What's happened in this regard? Is it better now?

I would typically use less than 3gb per month (currently on the Telecom Jetstream 3gb plan), but occasionally go over. I quite like the security blanket which the Jetbuster and Bitstream plans provide, esp. in the event that I do go over 3gb.

So what do current users think? Is it worth the switch over? Are there any real downsides which I need to know about?

Just out of interest why are you limiting yourself to those two I.S.P's only?

384509 2005-08-29 09:49:00 I'm on Slingshot Jetbuster Extreme, and have had few issues at all. Haven't done much gaming lately, but I don't recall any issues - in fact I haven't had many issues with them at all, except that they cut the speed to 64k as soon as you hit your monthly data allowance :) But an extra 10gb for $10 can be handy when needed.

384510 2005-08-29 09:50:00 I'm currently using Slingshot JetBuster Express Unlimited. Its a 256kb plan thats unlimited. Its pretty quick internet and after testing it on different internet testing sites, i found that it runs quick as described. Most downloads from websites are at 32KB/s. However i am living in the center of wellington and might be receiving better speed!!! :)

My only problem came when i found out that slingshot does not support bit torrent which means really slow downloads with bittorrent programs. After playing around with port forwarding and countless other programs, i gave up when it took a month to download a few things!!! The fastest speed i received was 15KB/s but most of the time ran at 1KB/s!!!

Im planning on upgrading to the jetbust extreme 2mb plan soon and paying an extra $10 for 10gb more. Slingshot is cheap and deliver good internet speeds. Plus, they also offer you other deals for your telephone so you make heaps of saving!!!

I've had speeds over 100KB/s downloading torrents via Slingshot - it all depends on how many people are sharing the torrent at the time. Sometimes I get them coming through at about 1KB/s, but often it's around 40-50KB/s, and sometimes higher than that. Bittorrent relies on people sharing the files you want to download. If only a few people are sharing them then the downloads will be slower. If many people are sharing you'll find they download much faster.

384513 2005-08-29 10:08:00 TELL ME YOUR SECRET!!!! I only download programs with heaps of sources, but my speeds never are high. When i called up slingshot (which was a great feat considering it took 10mins for them to answer, then another 5mins to transfer to technical support which i had wanted all along). Once i got there, one of support people told me that they did not support it and told me to try and port forwarding. That was what i was told.

What bittorrent program are you using? Whats your secret!!!

What bittorrent program are you using? Whats your secret!!!More than likely they mean that they don't offer support in setting up bittorrent, rather than their network not supporting it. I use Azureus for bittorrent, and had to set up port forwarding to get it to work. It all comes down to number of sources and how much bandwidth those sources are offering.
