385283 2005-09-01 21:58:00 Hi there, I have a couple of wuestions that I need abit of help with. I have just recently purchased a new computer and when it was being built the sales man told me that the Benq dw1620 was the way to go. Now I havent had any trouble with it but I am having trouble using it to back up my vast collection of DVD's. It has the ability to burn in both DVD-R and DVD+R. I have to my understanding succesfully burnt the DVD's to DVD-R but they will not work on my DVD player. Could it be the format of the DVD or is it the DVD player not being able to read the DVD-R format. Its verry frustrating. Also can someone point me in the right directions of a decent DVD backup software package. I have scowered the web and purchased 3 packages so far to no avail.

Any information in this area would be greatly appericated. Thanks.

Captin Moor.

Also you have got to play Joint_Operations online. WOW thats a really really cool game.

385284 2005-09-01 22:08:00 Not all external DVD players can play - or + DVD's that u burn .

Older DVD players wont play them either . Or will have a hard time trying to play them .

I have the same prob here . The only DVD player most of mine will play in, is in this stereo . And nothing else! Not much you can do about it .

There are programs that rip and let u burn back to dvd with something with Nero . I wouldnt bother BUYING something . Some programs that do this are free .

385285 2005-09-01 22:13:00 Depends what type of dvd you are trying to backup
Many backup softwares will not backup ccs protected dvds however if the dvds aren't protected and your computers burner/player can read the backups then it's probably your player that can't read the format.
Some will read - some will read + some will read both
Try dvd shrink it's free.

385286 2005-09-01 22:17:00 How old is your DVD player?

What programs have you tried and what do you have?

385287 2005-09-01 23:41:00 The DVD player is about 3 years old . I have tried JoyceCD, easy DVD, ghost DVD and winAVI and winRipper, Do you think that I should inquire about a new player . One that is compatable with the DVD-/+R . I also have a S-Video capable computer and TV . Would this be an easyer option . I am having problems with that too .

In regards to the S-Video hookup I can get a picture on screen but with out colour . Played with all the settings and cant for the life of me get it to show colour . The cord is 10m in lenght so do you think that , that might be abit of a problem .

I am very dishartened as I built this computer to spec and to my requirements and now none of the requirements seem to be working . Bloody computers . OOOPPPPS Bloody operators :)

385288 2005-09-01 23:58:00 Yup, connecting video out to a TV isnt that easy sometimes .

It depends on the videocard / its drivers, and whether u configure its options properly . So, something actually appears on the TV .

I found with this videocard, it didnt really like S-video -> RCA plugs on the other end of it .

It was either S-video from video out to TV, or RCA from video out to the TV, (if the videocard has RCA and S-video) .

What videocard do u have? And what videocard drivers are installed?

385289 2005-09-02 02:25:00 Thanks for the help . The Video card is a Ndiva Gefore 6600GT 128mb . It is running the drivers that came with the hardware and as I am not at home at the moment i cant check exactly what they are . I am running and S-Video lead from the video card to the TV which also has S-Video inputs . Like I said in a previouse post I feel that the amount of money and time that I put into building this machine has all been to waste . Oh well, I guess we live and learn to deal with these problems with the help of this great fourm and the insite of people that have some answers .

Thanks again fore all your help .

Uninstall those drivers, and get the latest version off the Nvidia site .

One thing that could be overlooked here is that after burning the DVDs you may not have finalised them. Check your software to see if there is a finalising option. For the DVD's to work on other DVD players they need to be finalised.
