2005-09-02 07:13:00 | my friend Nan, bought a new 80gb 8mbcache 7200rpm harddrive and his computer is fairly old. anyway he wants 2 know if he needs 2 format it or not with windows CD or whatever. thanks for any answers.... :nerd: | jamesyboi (6579) | |
2005-09-02 07:16:00 | Is this to be a slave drive or a master drive? Is it to be used for storage or an OS installed on it? What is his current OS? How old is "old" for the PC? | Jen (38) | |
2005-09-02 07:37:00 | Well unless its formatted with some method it won't be usable. | pctek (84) | |
2005-09-02 22:38:00 | his pc is about 4 years old and the new harddrive wont connect to the motherboard. is there a way to make it connect with some kind of adapter, yes its replacing the old harddrive so it's master. btw we are having problems with install sheild engine, product ID not working? his windows is chinese and it didn't ask for a key mwhahaha :illogical

2005-09-02 22:42:00 | Why won't it connect to the motherboard? If you are removing an existing IDE hard drive you just use that connector. Is it a s-ATA drive? | Jen (38) | |
2005-09-02 22:47:00 | Exactly what I was going to ask. Unless your HDD is SCSI or sATA and you are trying to plug it into an IDE slot it should be a simple matter of swapping them over... What do you mean the product ID isn't working? The PI is the one the was on the sticker? Or is it some dodgy pirate copy?
