385125 2005-09-01 06:30:00 Hi

Son has just bought a cheap PIII450 with no screen.

We attached a screen and turned it on but the screen light didn't change from orange to green (and noth at all on screen)

I would have expected something to show (even if only a blinking underscore).

Have tried tutning it on with a bootable linux disk in and still nothing.

Am I missing something obvious or should I go back to the dealer?

Thanks in advance for your assistance

385126 2005-09-01 06:57:00 If the monitor power light doesn't change when the computer is turned on there is something wrong . ;) If nothing at all appears on the screen, there is something wrong . :(

It might be a faulty cable between the monitor and the connector on the computer box . It might be a faulty video controller . It might be a box with a number of missing parts . Like a power supply . ;)

Have a quick look inside the box . Check that all cables are plugged in . Check that all boards are plugged in .

If it still doesn't show any life, have a talk to the vendor .

385127 2005-09-01 07:00:00 Is the monitor a known good one?
Do the fans, lights etc on the box whirr & flash etc or nothing at all.
If nothing at all then probably power supply or cable
If the power supply is running then it may be a dead or dislodged video card, dislodged or faulty ram, dud Bios
More info would help
Are there any beeps on startup?

385128 2005-09-01 08:04:00 Thanks for that guys

Monitor is good - tried some RAM that I knew worked - Everything appears to be correctly seated and plugged in OK

but

now you mention it, no beeps at all !!!

Maybe a phone call to vendor is warranted! :badpc:
