| 385099 | 2005-09-01 00:02:00 | Greetings all We have a home network with a router and a seperate network hub/switch thingie, it's speed is 10Mbps which tends to mean slow transfers between machines on the Lan, all the computers have 10/100Mbps network cards so we can actually make use of a faster switch What to buy On price spy there are switches as low as $20, but at our local Dick Smiths the cheapest we can get one for is $70 are the cheap ones any good, as i really think $70 is a bit steep I think the brands were "pro nets", Skymaster and colorsIT Any help is appreciated |

| 385100 | 2005-09-01 00:25:00 | Just make sure it is a 100 Mbps switch (and not a hub) and you should get full speed out of it. I have an older D-Link 100 Mbps switch at home with Realtek 10/100 cards and using FTP you can pretty much get the maximum speed out of the network. Ascent (http://www.ascent.co.nz) are selling a 8 port CNet switch for $43, for example ... |
