| 1377836 | 2014-06-24 00:17:00 | It costs $100,000 a year to keep a prisoner, and costs $20,000 to keep a pensioner! Something wrong here, why not keep them in a 5 star hotel? In the army we had no beds, slept on wooden trestles. No hot water, dehydrated rations. *Prisoners who are not working should be supplied food in biscuit form with water only. *Working or Studying prisoners would get basic food. *No hot water, no heating * Hammocks instead of bunks *Prisoners should have to work for their keep, they could grow vegetables to supplement their diet, any surplus to be sold. *No smoking, no cell phones, no TV, no direct contact with visitors. *Prisoners should be fitted with chips so that they could be monitored and knocked out if misbehaving. |

It's not the food, or TVs - TVs have to be provided by family anyway.... It's the cost of the guards (wages) cost of how much the CEOs get (private prisons) and cost of the fnacy pants security ssytems they have now. Old people don't get attended too, and are not watched and usually are allowed out if they feel like it. |

I don't have any concern for prisoners living conditions or "rights" though, if they can find a way to reduce the costs without letting these guys loose I'm all for it. Anyone who finds themselves in prison has very likely made some deliberate life choices that landed them there, you reap what you sow I say. Looking at those numbers I think I understand a little better why the British used to ship their convicts off to aus. |

More serious offenders were made to stay home . As the seriousness escalated, they might be made to listen to sermons, rising to being made to sit in parliament, or for true desperadoes compulsory attendance at bagpipes recitals . Repeat offenders might be given an Austin with full Lucas . |

If it costs 100k to keep these criminal filth locked so be it, makes it safer us. It seems to me we need to bring in the death penalty and deportation for anyone not born here and make prison conditions severe and economical as possible. In my dragons country Singapore the prisons run at a profit. They do this by selling furniture, electronic assembly and laundry for hospitals to name a few. I notice they have the same problem as New Zealand with the make up of the prisoners. Although Malays and Indians are a small minority they make the the bulk of the prison population. | prefect (6291) | ||
| 1377844 | 2014-06-28 05:31:00 | Have to agree. If an immigrant commits a serious crime they should be uprooted and deported at the first offence, and barred from re-entry. Their family can choose whether they stay or go with them. Personally, I'm getting quite sick of the filth in society, and would happily have my Police and Justice portions of my tax take doubled if it means we can make more of the social excrement think twice about their actions. Too much of society is being allowed to rot while those within those circles seek to plunge to the lowest possible standards. The really big worry is the generation of kids that have grown up being untouchable by the law, and by their carers. They've only ever learnt how to get away with bad behaviour, rather than how to behave. I caught a teen with property that was stolen from me some months earlier. When I made it clear to him the gear was coming back to my place and not his he first pointed out I couldn't touch him, then did his best to provoke me into assaulting him - to get me into trouble, while he was immune to any. 5 minutes of having him scream into my face, while I had to cool my heels and avoid the temptation to loosen a few of his teeth. Little turd should have gone home bruised and bleeding. Cops couldn't be bothered with him "His family is known to us" was pretty much their way of saying he wasn't worth dealing with. |
