1377319 2014-06-17 06:04:00 So I've been a bit spoiled with my last few cars, interior lights turning themselves on when the car is remotely unlocked, staying on until the key is turned to the on position, actually having a light around the ignition barrel, all that kind of stuff. I've recently got a 1996 Hilux, and it does none of this, I kind of miss it!

So I was wanting to setup a few bits and pieces, problem is I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for. I'm guessing something like a 'timed relay'....so lets say this hypothetical relay is connected to constant power, then the 'trigger' side is connected to (for example) one of the door lock actuators, then the 'output' side is connected to a LED that I would wire up for a ignition barrel light, the interior done light, and some LED footwell lighting that I would install. I can easily do all of that, but the bit of the puzzle I'm missing is the 'timer' part...obviously such things exist, but I'm a little foggy on where to look, or what the correct name for such things is.

In the past I've done similar things, but always hooked into electrics that were already there, for example the ignition barrel light powering some LED footwell lighting through a relay, and that type of thing. problem is the old girl is pretty basic in the electrics department, which is both a curse and a blessing.

Any thoughts/comments appreciated.

Thanks!

However the sun shines permanently up there so you shouldn't need any of that stuff.

1377321 2014-06-17 10:44:00 If you spend some time on google you might be able to find a simple timer cct based on a 555 IC. Could be an interesting project. I was researching something similar for an electric kontiki I was building but I gave up on that project (don't like lugging so much stuff when I go fishing). Or take the easy way out and use something like this www.jaycar.co.nz dugimodo (138)

That would seem to be very close to what I'm after - thanks Dugi. Given me a good place to start anyway.

1377323 2014-06-18 06:00:00 I recently installed LED strips in the foot wells, interior door handles, speakers etc, through 12V toggle switches wired to interior fuses in my 02 odyssey. I want LED's to switch on via the fob key and opening doors, but never really came across the use of "timed" relays in researching car forums. People mentioned the use of relays (5 pin) as a switch (www.oznium.com) and diodes (1 way current flow) running from dome light (www.fiatforum.com)/door switch from it's negative switch side. kahawai chaser (3545)
