1376983 2014-06-12 02:28:00 Well, I’m no leftie Wal and that link had my attention until I got to where they rated NZ Number 1 for education!

It was there that they lost all credibility and I lost interest.

1376984 2014-06-12 03:04:00 We seem to be included as a suburb of Aussie according to that map. pctek (84)

It all depends upon the criteria selected:

The Education sub-index measures countries’ performance in three areas: access to education, quality of education and human capital. The Education sub-index has risen since 2009, with a slight drop in 2012 (see graph). Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa recorded the highest and lowest performances, respectively, in the Education sub-index over the last five years, with the other regions scoring very close to the global average throughout the last five years (see graph)

I agree with you, B.M. but the criteria selected by the authors is entirely over to them and it's unlikely there will ever be a consensus.

1376987 2014-06-12 06:10:00 Well clearly Wal the “access to education” figures must screw the “quality of education figures” enough to render them useless. Quite what exactly “human capital” constitutes eludes me.

Hells teeth, if some of the Zombies that pass my place going to and from school represent the best educated in the world we are in big trouble. :crying
B.M. (505)
1376988 2014-06-12 07:31:00 In te phrase, "quality of education" they carefully do not state whether it is high or low quality that scores most.

Human capital: means the people are about to be fiscally squeezed a bit more

NZ is ranked #5 in the Asia Pacific region, but world wide we are #17:

Is to me, rather a pathetic song.

Check your figures before going off half-cocked. :p
