1377077 2014-06-14 01:04:00 While my kids were little i spent 6 seasons on the sidelines of the soccer field.............. but we never watched any other team, or country play............lol i did watch the all blacks in the world cup and our work did lots of stuff in supporting the all blacks as it was the children's interest, but i didnt hear about the soccer till the day before it started............ so where was all the hype and advertising being done? not here.

i wouldnt have a clue who is playing or how many countries...lol im not bothered. :)

1377078 2014-06-14 01:18:00 I tend to go along with Gary. I even played cricket for the Lucas Apprentices team.. once.

Being a bit of a loner and not really enjoying team sports is one reason I enjoyed tramping, however the biggest lesson to learn in tramping and SAR activities is 'mutual support' and helping the less able, 'free market forces' and everyone for themselves just doesn't cut it.

1377081 2014-06-14 03:23:00 Might depend what country/nationality people are from. I think many NZ's - from the 60's say, where "bought up" on rugby. Today perhaps still the same, with league being promoted/exposed a lot. My Danish and German step fathers, and their lot were all soccer. Scandinavians and European nationals are exposed to soccer quite a bit.

Large NZ corporates, and broadcaster like Sky, Radio, sponsor or broadcast Rugby and League - it's all we see or hear almost - as always. A soccer guy at work a while back, like others he believes, started playing rugby at school but then switch.

But yeah Maybe I'll wait for the finals, as I guess it's worth watching then.
