That's quite a wait! The train may even have left the station. (Even if only for a few routine colour and branding changes.) ;)

What I meant was that you can use the loo while the train is stationary...

Why waste paint on the side of the carriage that supposedly will not be seen.

Because paint is not just cosmetic - it helps protect the wood from rot and prevents water damage to the interior...

Obviously a brainless "cost-saving" measure by the local council, who can't see past the next election...

1377668 2014-06-22 05:52:00 There was one at Huapai used as a restaurant I think a few years ago. Don't know if it is still there.

Ken

Definitely still there - I pass that garden centre / restaurant on my way to golf most weekends... Ate there once a few years ago, very nice (and very busy, at that time - not so busy these days)

1377669 2014-06-22 06:07:00 There's all sorts of uses for retired transport units, e.g. the DC3 at Mangaweka, and there's an old tram at Palm Beach being used as a teenager's rumpus room by one of the more moneyed Island families. I also recall a railway carriage in Otaki or Paraparaumu being used as a restaurant or more accurately a fast food outlet.

But top of my bucket list next time in Melbourne is to have a meal on the Colonial Tramcar Restaurant - 5 Star Dining while the tram does its perambulation through the CBD.
