1377386 2014-06-18 21:09:00 Places like Telecom cant match the combined plans Telstra/Vodafone have. Xtra cant match the cable speed either even with their UFB.

Some of us don't care. Can't really see the need to be faster....I guess if you download a lot or watch online stuff.....although I have watched online stuff and don't see any issues with 14mps......

I look at reliability, customer service and price........VF lost it with me as described before.

1377387 2014-06-18 21:35:00 Maybe in the future Telecom will be faster, but right NOW they cant. This year alone VF have increased the speed, ( Speed test is around 125+ Mbps) and gone unlimited in traffic, AND dropped the price /month on the internet, So why should I settle for a lesser service at more cost ?

*shrug* to me, cable is the lesser service. Only 10Mbps upstream?

I really don't see what's so hard to get about my comment that "People who are with VF because of the Sky deal may change if the Sky deal is removed".

I'm saying that "IF" that happened, that many people wont change from what they currently have. Personally if Sky was removed I would still stay, because none of the others can match what we have over all, and I'm talking about internet, phones both mobile and land lines etc.

I did price comparison with Telecom a couple of months ago when they tried to get me to change, if I went with them it would cost me roughly $80 more / month to get the same services (which works out at $960 /Year)-(this doesn't include Sky HD TV either) -- so I ask again, WHY would a person go to telecom, get charged more for the exact same thing ? You'd have to be nuts.

I'm not saying everyone or even most would change. I'm not saying Telecom are the only other option. I'm only saying that, take the Sky deal off VF, and *some* people will then reconsider their ISP options. There are plenty of other ISP options, there are less options for TV in NZ. As to being 'nuts', well, it is cheaper for me to go with Telecom than Vodafone for the services I use. So, does it make me 'nuts'?

Blimey cant you read exactly what was written previously :groan: (your answer highlighted) You actually agreed :p

WHY would a person go to telecom, get charged more for the exact same thing ? I never said Vodafone is cheaper for everyone . Theres quite a few little "extras" we have with VF that others cant match .

If another Telco could offer the same things at a cheaper price for what you use, I guess you'd change .

Basically most people want to save money so they go with who ever is the cheapest for the services they want . I'm not paying an extra $960 / Year if I dont have to .

Anyway back on subject, Will be interesting to see what Sky comes up with .

1377391 2014-06-19 02:11:00 Now the news is saying Callplus will buy Orcon. pctek (84)
1377392 2014-06-19 03:08:00 Now the news is saying Callplus will buy Orcon. Oh Well, that's business I spose, buy this, sell that, most never know who is actually in charge of what -- Sounds all to familiar ;)

So Orcon could be owned By Slingshot, who is the parent company of Call Plus :waughh:

CallPlus is a New Zealand telecommunications company, parent of internet service provider Slingshot. It provides voice and data communication services to business customers.

Kiss of death for Orcon then. How many times has Slingshot been of Fair Go for for bad trade practices??

1377394 2014-06-19 05:32:00 Had this discussion before when Telecom or other ISP's try to offer plans, I've run through everything we have and they simply cant match it. As for Sky, we actually have both :) Mysky (through Sky) and HD Sky through Telstra/Vodafone, because the combined plan on Vodafone is less than a different telco/ ISP + sky HD x2 Combined.

At the same address? A second MySki box costs us only $5 more (well $20, but you don't have to pay for the $15 HD ticket or whatever), last time I checked.
