1377195 2014-06-16 02:36:00 They do have sponsors on board it's just that their money does not kick in until Feb 2015.

I would have hoped that should have been factored into their cash flow projections. As a contractual obligation, that could have been leveraged to provide bridging finance.

There's something missing here we're not being told about. Otherwise would not those sponsors and even our government have provided the bridging finance?

Dead right Wal, there are any number of lending institutions that would be only too happy to bridge the amount needed if the figures stacked up.

However, I suspect what Dalton is asking for is a straight out hand-out from us Taxpayers and it is time Key made it clear that it wasn’t going to happen if that is indeed the case.

I believe they were factored in, hense why Team NZ obviously asked for more than the initial $5 mill that the govt loaned them after the last Amercia's Cup finished. Of course when you are paying a team of top level designers and engineers and sailors, 5 mil only goes so far.

I figure Dean probably gets around to 500-$750K a year ( our top All Blacks are in this salary bracket)
A top level designer would cost you in the region of $100K+ a year - Team NZ have several
A top level engineer would cost you at least $150K+ a year - Team NZ have several

Plus the skeleton team of support staff.

other teams would have offered to pay them more in order to lure them away.

1377199 2014-06-16 06:54:00 We spend millions on benefits , some are filth who are serial bad backs or too lazy to work and solo mums who cant stop dropping their underwear after a night at the pub, cut some of it from these freeloaders and give it to Team NZ. prefect (6291)

Considering that San Francisco council lost millions on the racing due to poor to non exsistant TV coverage, and minimal crowds during the knock out stages, I think it would hurt the cup more if TNZ was un able to compete due to lack of available finances as that would potentially create the farce that we had in the last series where Italy had to "race" around the course by themselves because Team Sweden was still trying to fix their boat after it crashed during training.

Maybe Larry has to learn the hardway. If you make it too expensive no one will be able to afford to turn up, if you make it affordable you get lots of teams, exciting racing and lots of revenue generating TV coverage ;)

It could be, since the type of boat races you are talking about are usually what happens after the first boat has crossed the finish line ;)

1377203 2014-06-16 07:26:00 You cant beat a good boat race. Our rules were no spillage and you had up end the pint on your head when you finished it. At Woody Valley Corpies Club the Luft stalag ERS team which I was a member never lost and we even trained for races.
We also had a U boat game where everyone had a 10 oz glass of Vodka and orange, it started when the nominated person said "Achtung Englander aircraft/ship crash dive" at a time of his choosing and the last person on the ground had to buy the whole round and call a crash dive. Pretty unpc place it was I remember fuehrer shouts and taking your shirt off on hot days at the bar. Unheard of in other defence bars.

Our top all blacks consistently perform, Dean not so much. As for designers and engineers, looks like we were out done there too
