| 1377124 | 2014-06-14 04:28:00 | i call IRD and they advise me because of my bonus that affected my tax but he says that if your're just a normal individual earning salary then you don't need to file a personal tax refund. You can just ignore it she said. | Ninjabear (2948) | ||
| 1377125 | 2014-06-14 06:10:00 | The PAYE deductions from your salary are based on your standard salary package. Bonuses are typically not included in this base package, and as such are not taken into consideration when PAYE deductions are made. Thus, if you earn bonus/commission/etc throughout the year, you may owe tax on it, especially if it pushes your total earnings into a new tax bracket. Thus, you can have an end-of-year tax debt. This may be offset if you are eligible for any tax credits. | inphinity (7274) | ||

You have to file if you're self employed, paying student loan etc.... Otherwise, you can use their online work it out sheet to see if you owe them or they owe you. This does not require any personal details, just gives you a result. If in your favour, you can then file and claim. If not, go away and ignore it.... |

If in your favour, you can then file and claim. If not, go away and ignore it.... That is it in a nutshell. It takes about 15 minutes if you go slowly and unless you have multiple sources of income it is really simple. I cannot understand why anyone uses an accountant or the people who advertise this service on TV, they charge a percentage of your refund to fill out a simple form. All things being relatively normal you are most likely due to receive a refund as a wage salary earner. The system is designed that way which is a lot better than finding out you unexpectedly owe tax. One thing you should always keep in mind that if you get anyone else to do it and they make a mistake it is still you that is responsible as far as IRD is concerned. |

And, they actually have to become your agent first, you sign this and forever more they then do this. I know a couple of people who used one or other of them so pleased with themselves that they got a refund! As if they wouldn't if they had done it themselves. |
