2014-06-12 12:45:00 | Overall Greg, I'd just rent a few (cheap enough) and watch them. There is a copy of Gravity courtesy of some law-breaking students but I haven't watched it because I want to watch the Blu-ray version when there is time.

2014-06-13 03:35:00 | Is this possible these days? My friend who allegedly did this a few years ago for backup purposes says modern DVDs are a pain and often cannot be ripped or compressed. I haven't done any for a while, the ones I did were older ones too. But DVD Decrypter did them all without issue. There are newer programs (but paid) too. I don't see why it shouldn't work. People rip 'tougher' Blu-Ray all the time...

2014-06-13 05:30:00 | You need up to date ripping software to deal with the latest releases but it can still be done. Won't say any more though we are nudging the forum rules with this one I think :) Many of the once popular tools ceased development quite some time ago and although they still work with many titles it's a bit hit and miss these days. | dugimodo (138) | |
2014-06-13 10:17:00 | Initial suggestion would be that if you're away with the GF you might not need movies, BUT in the case you do you could always buy them at the warehouse and then take them back claiming they didn't play in your DVD player. I believe this used to work! Btw have you been to Vanuatu yet?

I believe this used to work! As in, treating The Warehouse as a movie library? :p |

2014-06-15 05:20:00 | As in, treating The Warehouse as a movie library? :p I seem to recall The Warehouse had (or used to have) fairly prominent disclaimers saying to be absolutely sure of the DVD region and player as they wouldn't make any refund. More recently Mark Powell (CEO) said he thought his $1.7m salary was ridiculous so arguably one could argue it would do little to their bottom line if they agreed to the occasional refund. Or three. :D
