1377456 2014-06-19 01:28:00 Hi Chill.

A year or two ago I seem to remember you saying you had upgraded a Galaxy S1 from Android 2.3.x to ICS.

I have an old Telecom SGS1 here with an intermittent screen problem so i figured it wouldn't matter if I screwed it during and upgrade. However it seems that there is not much info on how to do this these days. The current SW level is 2.3.3 and some sites say it needs to be 2.3.6 to update. However most of the update links are dead..

Looked on the CyanogenMod site who do have the 9000T ICS files but the method looks so convoluted that I won't even bother. I've done WinMo 6.x fones before and they were just running a windows exe file with the fone connected and all was done. This should be simalar..

Do you still have around the update info and or files?? If so any change of a dropbox link..

Thanx in advance.

1377457 2014-06-19 03:47:00 I did that too but I'm struggling to remember now. I think there was a program called Odin? and some custom ROMs, and you needed the Phone drivers installed but for Kies not to be running at all (best not to have it installed). There was a step to unlock the phone and another to load the custom ROM, then you need to do a factory reset to make it run properly sometimes. Don't think I kept any of the files but I'll check later if I remember, mine was the 9000S though I think so I'm not sure if it's the same?

Mine ran ICS ok for a couple months then Glitched and I got paranoid and restored it to stock before sellling it. Pays to see if you can get hold of a Stock ROM as well for a fallback as I had trouble locating that for mine (was Vodafone in my case).

1377458 2014-06-19 20:42:00 Too easy :)

1) I'd flash a custom ROM (Gingerbread / Froyo whatevecr, of any description) via Odin (Heimdall) that would include a custom recovery.
2) Once that was installed, copy across the .zip file to flash via Recovery
3) Reboot into recovery, flash the ROM. Factory wipe it. It will have installed a new Recovery for you.
4) Reboot the device, again going straight into recovery, flash it again and then flash your Gapps.
5) Profit

If I were you I'd use KitKat, it's "slimmer" than ICS / Jellybean on its requirements and will run better. Try something like this:

1377459 2014-06-19 20:45:00 BTW - i9000 and i9000T are identical save for the different Radio ROMs. You can flash an i9000 firmware, then as part of the aforementioned Step 4, you can flash an i9000T / i9000M Radio firmware and you'll be sweet.

Don't worry, I flashed bad / wrong radios a TON and it always ended up just fine. Just flash the right Radio ROM over top and you'll be sweet :)

3. Throw in bin
4. Have a cold beer or three
5. Report back to forum, telling Chill what happened. He will say..."Darn, sounds like you need a new phone"
6. Tell SWMBO phone is broken (blaming Chill of course}
7. By new phone (with SWMBO's OK, by referring back to number 5)

1377463 2014-06-25 02:34:00 Thanx Chill. Sorry for long delay in answering . I gave up trying to find the correct root file as there was too many of them and if you run the wrong one you have a washing machine.

I downloaded the app for Android called Z4Root and Mobile Odin . However Z4Root does not root the fone when it's run so will research this some more..

1377464 2014-06-28 17:51:00 No need to root it, just put it into Download Mode (Power + Home + Vol-Down) and flash a ROM that's pre-rooted with a custom recovery. It's the recovery part you care about, you have zero interest in the "rooted OS" part of it. Chilling_Silence (9)
