1377325 2014-06-17 07:31:00 The IRD won summary judgement in the High Court at Auckland against John George Russell last week for $367 million of unpaid tax, interest and penalties.

The Auckland accountant is still fighting with IRD and has filed for a judicial review of the department's refusal of his proposal to pay $1000-a-week for the rest of his life against his tax debt.

Russell developed a template that the Court of Appeal called a "blatant tax-avoidance scheme" .

So at $52000 a year he'd be how old when it was all paid back?
And if he can afford that...he's got money, so why should he live happily ever after? Too many of the white collars get away with it as it is.

7,019 years according to my math. Ironically it was the government that set the current taxation system up - or the IRD - depending on how you want to argue the point.

1377330 2014-06-17 22:49:00 "Russell's original tax bill was around $5m"

So the other $300mil , was IRD's penalties ??
Just slightly over the top .

So what if they bankrupt him.
Look how many ex-millionaires now bankrupt still seem to be living the good life , trips overseas ,nice cars, living in expensive houses that ~belong to someone else~
:annoyed:
