1376951 2014-06-11 21:26:00 Me and g/f are going down to her beach house again for a few days where there's no tv reception (yet). Nor is there Internet. So I want to download and save to a USB stick about 6 movies. Are there any decent, authentic, legit and inexpensive download sites you can recommend?

Of course I can hire some dvd's, but don't want to drag the player along. The thought also comes to mind to rent some dvd's and copy them to USB drive, but not sure if that's legit?

1376952 2014-06-11 22:27:00 Short answer no.

Of the NZ services I don't think any allow offline access - itunes would (move in itunes or ipad). I doubt eziflix does and quickflix is subscription based (so streaming only).

Of the US services m-go is streaming only, itunes allows offline and vudu also.

There are the odd number of DRM free movies you can purchase (soundcity springs to mind).

TBH your best bet is to rip a couple of disks (you own) to USB, or take a dvd player....

Of course there are illegal options also.

There are no (legal) downloading sites for current movies (That would amount to pirating them) - but there are some legit sites for downloading movies that have been out for a while. My fiancee has an app that lets her download them.

1376954 2014-06-11 22:46:00 I've tried the MS movie app on windows 8 and the google movie app available from google.com. Both allow you to hire a movie and download it for offline watching with a DRM file that expires in a few days time. Trouble is I've had issues with playback in the past and if you try a file to see if it will play you start the 24 clock which will disable the file. If you want to use either I'd try hiring a movie to watch, downloading it, and watching it - before you rely on it to work for other movies at the beach house. Also you'll have to do it on the PC you plan to use for viewing due to the DRM. Make sure not to chose the streaming option if you do this.

As for the DVD Idea, not legit no but if you make a copy, watch it once, then delete it, you'll have more or less honored the spirit of the law if not the letter :)
There is a bit of a lack of these services in NZ, hopefully that will eventually change.

1376956 2014-06-12 00:55:00 Most players are lightweight and easy to "drag around". Easiest way is just to hire a few DVD's, take the player and forget all the hassles of trying to down load from a site and take a heavier pc of laptop along instead of the DVD player. Bryan (147)

What does the xx near the end stand for?

1376958 2014-06-12 05:31:00 What does the xx near the end stand for?lol - it was just a random number of x's with a few spaces. Greg (193)

Is this possible these days? My friend who allegedly did this a few years ago for backup purposes says modern DVDs are a pain and often cannot be ripped or compressed.
