385957 2005-09-04 10:03:00 Hi,

This exact same thing happened about a month ago. I took my computer home to play games on my fast connection and when I plug it in, all that happened was it would siren and there would be nothing appearing on the screen.

After some swapping in and out of components we figured my $940, X800 video card had died because my PCI video card was running fine. So I got that replaced under warranty and the new card arrived back this week. Everything had been going fine with the new card in.

Then I took my computer home tonight again to play in a BF2 tournament and the same thing is happening again - siren sound and nothing on the screen.

Not another video card dead I thought! I took my 1 week old X800 out and now I'm just running with the PCI video card. I cleared the CMOS. It then booted up and got to the BIOS screen, so I set up a few options and rebooted. As soon as it did that it beeped a few times and then started up with the siren again.

Nothing was overclocked before this happened either. Though earlier in the week my BIOS settings had reset themselves back to default for no apparent reason.

What's going on here? Surely I can't have killed the video card again??? :(

385958 2005-09-04 10:06:00 are the cards moving a fair bit when you are transporting the pc? maybe they are slightly bending and something goes snap or poof :(

[edit]
or maybe the psu, a sudden change in voltage when you plug it in or something?

385959 2005-09-04 10:24:00 Your mobo doesnt have a chassis intrusion connector on it does it??

If this is on the right jumper, when u open the case, it'll give off a high level signal. I would say this would sound similar to a siren.

385961 2005-09-04 10:40:00 The computer was originally set up in the study like last time, but I've just moved it down the hall to my old room and it's working perfectly.

Something must be up with the power supply to the study because I tried all 3 wall sockets down there. But as soon as I moved it down to my room it works fine.

Might explain why our old Pentium 200mhz computer was always crashing down there for no apparent reason. Have to get an electrician to check it out or something.
