385729 2005-09-03 10:28:00 your comment about the static IP address is interesting. I've had a static IP address for the whole year I've been on ADSL. I had a static IP address when I was getting jetstream through orcon, then it changed once to a new static IP address when I changed to bitstream.

any idea why the cheap modems require a static IP for port forwarding? That doesn't make any sense to me.

385730 2005-09-03 11:26:00 Not cheap modems, certain D-Link ones like the DSL302g.

Im curious why Orcon can give out Static IP's, yet Ive asked and asked iHug ever since I got one for it! without luck :(

385731 2005-09-03 11:31:00 I have a dynamic IP address through Actrix. If I want a static one it would cost me another $9-95 a month.

385732 2005-09-03 11:46:00 So you can get static IP's these days?!

Since when?

Last time I called about it would have been around 6 months ago

385735 2005-09-03 12:55:00 But. Lizard why would you want a static IP unless you wanted to use the machine as a server, which you don't say you do. mark c (247)
385736 2005-09-03 21:30:00 So it seemingly is only for businesses unless if you're an Orcon customer? Chilling_Silence (9)
385737 2005-09-03 21:54:00 Orcon UBS with static IP here. I love static IPs, no having to deal with dyndns.org or anything like that. Telstra cable have fixed IPs as well. I'm sure others do as well. Jeremy (1197)
385738 2005-09-03 23:48:00 So it seemingly is only for businesses unless if you're an Orcon customer?Probably. Orcon's static IP for residential customers is a pain in the arse. Greg (193)
