385982 2005-09-04 11:09:00 My brother bought a 2nd hand pc from a redundant internet cafe

amd 2400+
400w
40gb

I got put my geforce 6600GT and 1gb of ram in to see if it was worth upgrading and it ran really good. so i bought the same new card and ram and put it in but now its acting like poos. the new graphics card crashes (blue screen) when viewing 3d graphics, or severly lags! and the internet firewall cannot b enabled, i go 2 enable it but it says there are files missing. i got a router from dse but it wont connect to it (my other pc does). it freezes alot and it wouldn't let me install avg antivirus or diskeeper, i finally got 2 install avg somehow but no virus. no spyware either. i guess i have 2 reinstall windows because it was soooo fine last night...and this morning. but wen i got home again it was crap lol. plz help anyone? AND THEN MY USB DRIVE DIED!!!!!!

385983 2005-09-04 11:13:00 is the ram you installed new?

Anyhow, finger the obvious, one of the 1 new components maybe faulty, most probally the ram.

Or the PSU maynot be upto the job, the 400w stuck on the side doesn't really mean squat for second-string brands.....

385984 2005-09-04 11:13:00 And whats the motherboard?? Speedy Gonzales (78)
385985 2005-09-04 11:16:00 its a wierd psu brand, the motherboard is via kt400, and the ram is definitely new. i tried the new geforce in my pc and it lagged bad too. and crashed.... my older but same geforce is much uberfast. ive tried the ram in mi other pc and it worked fine jamesyboi (6579)
385986 2005-09-04 11:19:00 its not a psu problem because i tried my pc parts in it and they worked fine. just the new ones didn't. and the windows is screwed up somehow. i spent 9 hours downloading counterstrike source updates for it overnight. played in the morning. went 2 church, came back. and the windows firewall wouldn't enable. and nothing would install properly etc. im hoping reinstall will fix it. but also...why the heck did my usb die.... the light 2 show its working doesn't go and it doesn't get recognised on pc...i guess its broken...owell i can get a refund......meh jamesyboi (6579)
385987 2005-09-04 11:21:00 also i have a 20m ethernet cord going from its ethernet port to my new router and my other pc goes to the same router. my other pc works fine on it but the one i just got doesn't work... i tried putting in ip address manually and going to the website (http://192.168.1.2) but it acted as if there was no connection. i even tried my old modem and it wouldn't work...is this possibly a problem with the ethernet cord? jamesyboi (6579)
385988 2005-09-04 11:23:00 by the way the user and psswrd for that site is 'admin' and 'password' jamesyboi (6579)
385989 2005-09-04 20:54:00 I would have done a clean install of Windows anyway.
Second I'd be suspicious of the MB.

385990 2005-09-05 01:51:00 Well I just sold my KT4V (MSI Brand), but I had been running a Sparkle Geforce 6600GT in it, which was having quite a few problems until I updated the drivers (I excpect you've already done this) then after that I got a new PSU because I didn't really want to run my new geforce off my old crappy hyena.

But as you say you have a problem with windows firewall, there could also be a problem with directx and other things, so I think a reinstall of windows will be a great idea..

385991 2005-09-05 07:10:00 also i have a 20m ethernet cord going from its ethernet port to my new router and my other pc goes to the same router. my other pc works fine on it but the one i just got doesn't work... i tried putting in ip address manually and going to the website (http://192.168.1.2) but it acted as if there was no connection. i even tried my old modem and it wouldn't work...is this possibly a problem with the ethernet cord? That IP address is not normally used for a router. The router admin web-interface should be at 192.168.1.1. Have a read of your router manual for instructions on how to access and use it. :) Jen (38)
